“Loneliness is the most terrible poverty" -Mother Theresa

Loneliness ; Social isolation...

"What makes us happiest in life? Some people may point to fabulous fame and fortune. But, hands down, surveys show that friends and family are the real prize. Yet even though our need to connect is innate, some of us always go home alone. You may have people around you throughout the day or you may even be in a lifelong marriage, yet you may feel a deep down loneliness. Not surprisingly, isolation can affect one's mental and physical health to great detriment"-http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/loneliness

I am pretty sure Mother Theresa was referring to the countless destitute, sick and unwanted children and individuals she helped and saved throughout her lifetime, but feelings aren't always logical and can cut your like a knife...Over and over again.

A great Husband: Check!
Two Beautiful and healthy boys: Check!
A beautiful home where we are safe, warm and fed: Check!
Friends and family: Check!

So why does loneliness creep into my heart daily and cripples me to the point of wanting to stay under the covers some days? Not sure.

Maybe it is the whirlwind of Twin Land. Maybe it was the change of culture that caught up with me. Maybe it is the lack of daily social interactions I used to take for granted before becoming a Domestic Engineer: Drive to work, picking up a coffee, feeling validated through my work, laughing with co-workers one minute, wanting to shut the door on them the next...Maybe it is the lack of having the choice of interacting or not...

A disconnect. A disconnect from the "Real" World that has been replaced with a high speed connection through e-mail and Facebook. Likes, Dislikes, status updates, picture exchanges and comments do not replace face to face interactions, no matter how small, that keep us...Connected.

A phone call. A letter in the mail. A simple Hello....Is all it takes to brighten one's day.

If the last 4 years have taught me anything, apart from not judging other mothers...We all struggle in our own way, it's that Friendships and family ties are like the changing seasons....
One minute it can make you feel warm, the next freezing and sometimes deplete you like a raging rainstorm...

The Buddha says "Nothing is permanent" and that "This too shall pass"...

Here's hoping...And Wishing.

Mama's Top 5...

A-Ha moments...

1) You will never be prepared, ready or know what to expect...For at least 21 years.

2) The trick to getting some alone time? Schedule, remind and Bolt!

3) I will never be the mom loves to play trains, cars or pretend. I am a mom who loves to cuddle, sing, read and teach colors and shapes. Not so bad.

4) Sleep, eating and sharing will happen one day. Hopefully before 21 years.

5) The trick to be a happy SAHM? Limit as much time as possible...At home!
